Paul Croft


I am passionate about delivering innovative, commercial solutions to complex business problems. I excel in making sense of data and am accomplished in drawing out actionable insights that help businesses overcome challenges, navigate ambiguity and capitalise on opportunities.

Paul has over 20 years of experience in forensic accounting, financial due diligence, financial reporting, financial control and finance transformation. Spanning careers in leading global consulting firms and Australia’s largest financial and educational institutions, Paul is an expert in data analysis, financial modelling, forecasting and structured operating model reviews.

Forensic accounting experience

For over nine years, Paul has assisted on, or led, matters as expert witness and expert determiner in a wide range of commercial disputes, business interruption and financial investigations. As independent expert, he has given expert oral evidence in the District and Supreme Courts of New South Wales. Selected examples of his forensic accounting and investigations experience include:

  • Assisting the Commonwealth’s Aged care Inquiry into the Events at Earle Haven Retirement Village, responding to specific questions on financial management and operational structure, and governance and compliance with prudential regulations
  • Investigating and quantifying the impacts of a suspected fraud, related to the under-payment of NSW State legislative obligations
  • Advising on the impact of paying dividends on a company’s ability to pay its creditors, in a complicated insolvent trading matter

Transaction services experience

From 2007 to 2015, Paul worked in the Transaction Services teams at PwC Sydney and London, advising corporations and private equity managers on market-entry, buying, selling and listing businesses in transactions across Australia, Asia, Europe, the United Kingdom and United States. During that time, he led, or was a party on, over 50 transactions and responsible for all aspects of the due diligence. Selected examples of his transaction services experience include:

  • Due diligence on the attempted €2bn acquisition of one of Europe’s largest pan-European private banks
  • Due diligence on an on-line health start-up for Seven Network and Telstra Ventures
  • Due diligence on the Virtus Health IPO
  • Vendor assistance services on the internalisation of CBA’s property fund management rights
  • Vendor due diligence on Suncorp’s sale of Tyndall Asset Management
